On ne s’improvise pas lanceur de boomerang… Car, oui, le bon geste n’est pas naturel ! Or un lancer raté peut être très dangereux. En effet, si vous lancez le boomerang à plat comme un frisbee, il monte très haut et redescend extrêmement vite de façon à pouvoir vous blesser. Voici donc comment acquérir la bonne technique !
- Au départ, utilisez un boomerang en plastique car les modèles en bois sont plus exigeants.
- Pour vos premiers lancers, choisissez une journée avec un léger vent et installez-vous dans un endroit dégagé, sans personne. Un pré ? Un terrain de football ? Une plage ? Foncez !
- Identifiez la direction du vent en lançant en l’air un objet très léger, comme un petit bout de papier (que vous ramasserez !) ou des brins d’herbe, puis placez-vous face au vent.
- Tenez le boomerang du côté profilé, en orientant sa face plane vers l’extérieur et en pinçant son extrémité entre le pouce et l’index.
- Inclinez le boomerang correctement : il doit former un angle d’environ 20 degrés par rapport à votre main, d’une part, et de 45 degrés à droite du vent pour les droitiers (à gauche pour les gauchers, forcément…), d’autre part.
- En fixant un point à l’horizon, lancez le boomerang légèrement vers le haut (vers la cime des arbres s’il y en a autour de vous) avec un mouvement énergique du poignet pour entraîner un effet de rotation maximal : le boomerang doit s’élever dans les airs pratiquement à la verticale. Inutile, toutefois, de le lancer aussi fort que possible : le geste doit d’abord être dynamique.
- Si vous avez bien lancé votre boomerang, il revient vers vous, et vous n’avez plus qu’à le rattraper « en sandwich » entre vos deux mains. Mais une fois expérimenté, vous pourrez tester d’autres méthodes, par exemple à une main ou par-dessous la jambe !

Si votre boomerang ne revient pas, allez le chercher et recommencez ! S’il a atterri à votre gauche (ou droite), lancez-le plus à droite (ou à gauche) du vent, et s’il est monté très vite en l’air pour finalement s’écraser au sol, lancez-le moins à plat.
